The Model Program
Sit for the Academy
Every Academy course is taught on living hair. Members of the public are invited to sit as models for supervised student work, at no cost, under the direct oversight of Academy faculty.
Why Models Matter
Models make advanced instruction possible. Working on real hair — with real history, texture, and condition — is what separates professional education from demonstration.
All work is performed by licensed professionals enrolled in the course and reviewed by faculty at every stage. A consultation precedes every appointment, and no service proceeds without the model's informed agreement.
Model appointments are scheduled by city as each course is confirmed. Model inquiry details are announced with each semester.
What to Expect
No cost
Model appointments are complimentary. Models are guests of the Academy, not clients.
Time commitment
Appointments run longer than a salon visit — typically three to five hours — because the work is taught as it is performed.
Faculty supervision
A member of the faculty oversees every stage of the service and approves the plan before work begins.
Consultation first
Each model is consulted on the intended result. Models must be comfortable with the course's area of study and its outcome.
Model Eligibility
Who may sit as a model
Models must be eighteen years or older and available for the full appointment on the scheduled course day. Suitability is confirmed during consultation, as each course requires particular hair conditions.

Request a Model Appointment
Submit an inquiry to be contacted when model appointments open in your city. Include the city nearest you; appointments are scheduled course by course.
Submit an inquiry to join the Academy List and remain informed as each semester is announced. Members of the list are notified first when registration opens — with advance access to course dates, tuition, and registration instructions. Registration is completed when the semester opens; enrollment becomes official once licensure is verified by the Office of Admissions.
