Overview

The Extension Method™ approaches extension work as a complete professional practice — from the first consultation through installation, maintenance, and removal.

Instruction emphasizes sound judgment: selecting the right approach for the hair in front of you, executing with precision, and protecting the client’s natural hair throughout the life of the service.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, graduates will be able to:

Conduct a consultation to determine appropriate extension method, texture match, and density based on client goals and natural hair condition
Select and prepare extensions for seamless integration with natural hair
Execute installation techniques with attention to scalp health and long-term wearability
Apply placement strategies that support natural hair growth and minimize tension or damage
Identify and correct common installation errors that compromise hair integrity

Evaluation

Faculty evaluation of consultation reasoning, installation technique, and tension and placement judgment during applied practice.

The Certificate of Completion is awarded on satisfaction of the Academy’s academic standards, not on attendance alone.

Who Should Attend

Beauty professionals who currently offer extension services and wish to refine their practice, as well as experienced professionals preparing to add extensions as a specialty.

Admissions & Prerequisites

Applicants must hold an active cosmetology or barbering license in good standing, and demonstrate professional standing appropriate to advanced practice.

Prior experience in extension services is recommended but not required. Space in each course is limited to preserve the quality of instruction and individual faculty attention.

Faculty

Led by SHINE-certified faculty with a minimum of ten years of professional experience behind the chair, selected for technical mastery, professional teaching experience, and demonstrated commitment to the standards of the Academy. Full faculty biographies will be published as instructors are confirmed for each course.

Credentialing

Graduates receive a Vivid Hue Academy Certificate of Completion in The Extension Method™, recognizing advanced professional training.

Continuing education credit hours, where applicable to state licensing requirements, will be listed on this page upon confirmation.

Vivid Hue Academy approaches professional beauty education as a discipline, not a trend. Each course is structured to move professionals through guided demonstration, applied practice, and critical evaluation, ensuring that graduates leave not only able to perform a technique, but able to explain the reasoning behind every decision made behind the chair.

Credential Awarded

Graduates receive a Vivid Hue Academy Certificate of Completion in The Extension Method™, recognizing advanced professional training.

Course Level: Advanced
Prerequisites: Active cosmetology or barbering license in good standing.
Format: Single-discipline intensive combining guided demonstration, applied practice, and faculty evaluation.
Evaluation: Faculty evaluation of consultation reasoning, installation technique, and tension and placement judgment during applied practice.
Schedule: Full-day instruction. Session hours are published with each city announcement.
Tuition: Tuition is set per city and published when registration opens. Academy List members receive pricing and registration access first.
What to Bring: Professional shears, sectioning clips, a mannequin or model as assigned, and licensure documentation.

Course of Study

Courses are designated Foundational, Advanced, or Mastery. Designation reflects the depth of prior practice a course assumes, not the seniority of the professional enrolled.

Be among the first to receive registration information for The Extension Method™. Fall 2027 course dates, venues, tuition, eligibility requirements, and enrollment details will be announced as they are finalized.

Submit an inquiry to join the Academy List and remain informed as each semester is announced. Members of the list are notified first when registration opens — with advance access to course dates, tuition, and registration instructions. Registration is completed when the semester opens; enrollment becomes official once licensure is verified by the Office of Admissions.
